The opinion of the committee of enquiry on the GED project in Plouray is now public:

It is UNFAVOURABLE

This is great news, and the result of the general mobilisation against the project.

The commissioners have spelt out the fact that this private project was in total contradiction with the general interest of the region and its population, because of the hazards associated with the type of waste, their volume, and their chemical evolution over the decades, the risks of leakage into the surface or ground water. They have used damming words to express their distrust of the operator and its methods.

Better still, they have underlined the exceptional value and vulnerability of our environment, natural heritage and quality of life, which must be preserved. In their own words, "the valley targeted for the project is simply extraordinarily beautiful. Hedge lined pastures alternate with woods, there are no blots. The view stretches into the distance, unimpeded. This is an utterly peaceful spot. This peacefulness constitutes an outstanding environment to which anybody with a minimum ability to relate to the landscape cannot but be drawn immediately."

So, we have won the first battle, but there will be many more before we win the war! This result has been achieved through the unanimous mobilisation of the people of Centre Bretagne and beyond, elected representatives, associations, etc. Today, we can congratulate ourselves on what we've achieved, and rejoice together tomorrow 26 February at our Fest-Noz in Langonnet, but there is much to be done yet, and we're counting on you all!!
