August News

To recap on the summer's events, after putting in its request for the Mayor's opinion on the rehabilitation of the site in 25 years' time (our public meeting of 3rd July and see “GED's plans for the mega-dump site” further down this item), on 28th July, they filed an application for a building permit at the Mairie of Plouray. It appears that they got the procedure wrong and the file has been rejected. They will now probably produce another file, following the correct procedure and submit it again, it is only a matter of weeks. The mayor has given a negative opinion anyway, but it is only an advisory opinion.

Following after that, on 30th July, GED filed an application with the Préfecture in Vannes, to be authorised to open a classified installation. That is going to cause a lot of turmoil among their secretarial staff, as they will have to alter their standard letter of answer to queries by our members and supporters, which said they were not aware of any file, etc., etc. However, the file is now being reviewed by the Regional Department in charge of Industry (DRIRE) which has two months in which to give an opinion, unless they feel the need to ask for further information, in which case it will take longer.

So, we're heading for a public inquiry, in a few months' time. That is going to entail a lot more background work for us, and proactive mobilisation from our supporters.

Please pass the word round and watch this space !!

Forthcoming events

Meanwhile, don't miss the Pardon at Saint-Guénin, in Rosterc'h (Plouray) a lovely chapel which is recently renovated by the municipality, now only a stone's throw from the boundary of GED's land, that will be held on Sunday 6 September (mass at 11.00, inauguration of the renovated chapel at 12.00 followed by drinks offered by the Mairie, lunch, either at the Salle Polyvalente (10€ - don't forget to book in advance – tickets are on sale in the various shops in Plouray) or on site (grilled sausages, “buvette”, etc...), and, in the afternoon, various “events” connected with the project plus information stands on the actions launched by the various associations), sound effects, music, dancing, and a walk at the heart of GED land!!.

Next date in your diaries: 13 September. The Breton Fly Fishers' Association (ABPM) is organising one of its regional events in Plouray, in support of NPCB's action. Things will start at 10.30, with demos, fly practice on the Plan d'Eau, conferences, exhibitions, you name it. Several associations (including NPCB) will be present to explain the importance of preserving the local environment and water resource. Pancakes and gâteaux bretons will be on sale from midday onwards, and a buvette, the profits of which will go to NPCB !

Then, after a short break, don't forget our forthcoming Fest-Noz in Guémené sur Scorff on 10 October.

More about this later.
